Moggy - BIAY bible in a year

The purpose of this blog is only for myself. It's just about me trying to read through the Bible in a year. A good place to listen to daily bible readings is BibleonRadio.com. And daily reading on biblegateway. Blog contents copyright © 2007 artisterrant.blogspot I have over 100 posts here, but I have messed up the layout and some of them are unfinished, I plan to just fill in and fix things.

Thursday

I did see some things in the daily bible reading today that I have not been doing right. I've been reading the news and caught up in some of the really awful stuff that goes on in the world.

I'm not saying that we need to be ignorant that bad things exist, but that should not be our focus. Our focus should always be God and our relationship with him.

Monday

It's easy sometimes to envy people who are rich, or famous and think that they somehow have better lives than we have.

I know people who stir up trouble, but don't seem to get into trouble themselves. If they prosper from it, that makes it seem like it worked for them. Don't be fooled by that, there is a judgment and I for one, do not want to stand before God knowing that I have hurt other people.

Sunday

I think the main problem is that when we feel depressed, sad, or lonely we look for something to ease the pain. Sometimes the pain we feel is because we need God and we look for anything else that we can find because we are rebellious. It could be drugs, food, money or anything that in the end will leave us in worst shape than where you started.

Quote: “The sight of a drunkard is a better sermon against that vice than the best that was ever preached on that subject” - George Savile

Ecclesiastes 1-2 These are the words of the Teacher,[a] King David’s son, who ruled in Jerusalem. Everything Is Meaningless “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”

I'm struggling to find the meaning in this reading, but I do think that if you look at life and remove God from what you are seeing then it is meaningless. Also as "the teacher" said we can't see God's plan from the beginning to the end and so to us it is meaningless.

Thursday

June 7th Bible Reading

1 Kings 2-3:2; Acts 5:1-42; Psalm 125:1-5; Proverbs 16:25

Kings - King David gives instructions to his son Solomon.

Acts - A couple sell property and then together they decided to say they sold it for less than what they did and just give that much to the Church. They both lie about it at separate times about it and both die.

Psalm - Just like the mountains surround Israel God surrounds his people.

Proverbs - There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

Wednesday

June 6th Bible Reading

1 Kings 1:1-53; Acts 4:1-37; Psalm 124:1-8; Proverbs 16:24

Kings - This was very exciting, King David was getting really old and one of his sons Adonijah began to boast that he would make himself king. Adonijah got a group of men together who agreed to help him become king. He actually invited all of his brothers except for Solomon. Nathan the prophet told Bathsheba (Solomon's mother) and she went to King David herself about it. He made Solomon king right then and Adonijah and his people heard the celebrating and shouting of the people because they had their new King.

Acts - Peter and John heal a man in the name of Jesus and they tell the people that Jesus has risen and many believe them. The rules, elders and teachers of religious law try to make them stop talking about Jesus, but so many people have seen the healing and have started to believe and understand about Jesus that they are afraid to do anything and so they let them go.

Psalm -
What if God had not been on the side of Israel when they were attacked. Praise the Lord for keeping them safe.

Proverbs -
Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Daily Bible Reading

2 Samuel 23:24-24:25; Acts 3:1-26; Psalm 123:1-4; Proverbs 16:21-23

I hope to get started back on this soon. One of the reasons I did this blog was to help me to read through the Bible in a year and it has helped. I'm still working on the discipline to make the time for it every day. I mean even the days that I'm sick or busy. This blog has allowed me to see that I haven't given the Bible the importance in my life that I believe it should have.

Psalm - This is about loving God and his word. It's really beautiful.

Proverbs - The king speaks with divine wisdom; he must never judge unfairly. The Lord demands accurate scales and balances; he sets the standards for fairness.
